Constitution Day 2021

Constitution Day (Samvidhan Divas), also known as "National Law Day”, is celebrated in India on 26 November every year to commemorate the adoption of the Constitution of India. On 26 November 1949, the Constituent Assembly of India adopted to the Constitution of India, and it came into effect on 26 January 1950.

The Constitution of India is a very dynamic creation of the Constituent Assembly under the visionary & learned Chairmanship of Dr B.R Ambedkar.  Constitution as we all know is a supreme law of the country and every citizen has to abide with its values in letter and spirit.

The Indian Constitution is the longest written constitution in the world and has many salient features which makes it special. The Indian Constitution was written by taking inspirations from the various constitutions around the world. As we all know, India is a very diverse country and it was necessary to have a detailed bylaws incorporating various provisions in order to accommodate various differences of India’s diverse society.

The Fundamental Rights of the Constitution guaranteed various rights to each & every citizen. The fundamental Rights particularly, article 32 of the Indian Constitution “Right to Constitutional remedies” is considered as ‘the heart and soul of the Constitution’. The government cannot break or curb anyone’s rights. When these rights are violated, the aggrieved party can directly approach the courts including Supreme Court that can issue writs for enforcing fundamental rights. There are also fundamental duties in our Constitution.

Thus our lawmakers have taken all the factors into consideration and have tried to provide the best possible constitution.

Before I conclude, I would like to recall the sagacious words of Dr. B.R Ambedkar, which are as relevant today as when he had spoken: “However good a constitution may be, if those who are implementing it are not good, it will prove to be bad. However bad a constitution may be, if those implementing it are good, it will prove to be good”.
